Aidan's 1st Word

So in the last week or so Aidan has been saying "mamamamaaaa and dadadadad". However, I don't count those as words. Those are just the sounds babies make when they start putting sounds together. Granted, he generally uses "mama" when he is most upset, crying and staring RIGHT at me all the while. And this morning, as he was playing in his bouncer, Mike walked up and Aidan looked directly at him and said, "dada" clear as day. But that could just be a coincidence, right? I mean the kid is just 6-1/2 months old.

But yesterday, I was trying to put away laundry in his room. So, I set him in his crib and I summoned big sister Ava to join us.

"Please keep him entertained so that I can put these clothes away." I instructed.

To which she replied, "Sure, mom. Piece of cake."

Aidan mimicked her, "CAKE".

Ava and I looked at each other in such surprise. "Did he just....? Nah, no way."

Then Ava said, "Aidan, say cake."

He answered, "Cake".

She did it a couple more times and he responded with "cake" a couple more times.

"Get my phone!" I yelled. "I've got to record this!"

And so she did. Here is the video of Aidan showing off his speaking skills.

With 2 big sisters, maybe this 3rd child has to talk so that he is heard! Or...as the youngest in a family of 5, maybe he's just got lots of people teaching him new tricks.
